This was the beginning of a dark period in Turkish history that would last for three years. Following the Allied forces&#8217; defeat of the Ottomans in the First World War and the unconditional surrender of Turkish troops in compliance with the Mudros Armistice of 30 October 1918, the Greek government was very enthusiastic about sending military forces to Anatolia and occupying, even annexing, some Turkish territories.
